Abstract

1531755 Radiography PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 Sept 1975 [6 Sept 1974] 36272/75 Heading G2E [Also in Division H5] In a method of cinematrographically displaying a tomosynthesized sectional layer X of a three dimensional body 6, a rapid succession of radiographs of the body is taken from a series of separate flash x-ray sources 1, 2, 3 .... N, and the images reproduced on a screen 5. The screen images are recorded cinematographically; which record is then cinematographically projected on to a plane 13, when they form a superimposed composite image when the tomosynthesized layer can be observed. Fig. 1 shows the initial step, the images from the respective x-ray sources being formed on the curved input screen 4' of an image intensifier 4 and then transmitted to the output screen 5. The sequence of images is then photographed by a high speed cine camera. Fig. 2 shows the second step, in which the images from screen 5 are optically corrected (since screen 4' is curved), and projected on to plane 13. Figs. (not shown) 3a-3d are of various optical or electro-optical methods of transmitting the images from screen 5. Fig. 4 shows an apparatus for carrying out the complete method, i.e. the step of Fig. 1 followed by the step of Fig. 2, the x-ray sources here being shown by the reference 40. The images appearing on the output screen 75 of the image intensifier are reflected from a partly silvered mirror 76 and recorded by a camera 77. The film record is subsequently projected from a unit 77' and reflected from a mirror 76', the synthesized images finally being produced in the plane X".
