Abstract

1530152 Purifying polluted air and catalyst therefore COMPTOIR LYON-ALEMANDLOUYOT 3 Oct 1975 [11 Oct 1974] 40621/75 Headings B1E B1F and B1W Polluted air is purified by treatment with a supported metalloceramic catalyst described in Specification 1424424 in which the support is heated either (a) by the joule effect resulting from the passage of an electric current through the support or (b) by an auxiliary heater device. The polluted air may have been obtained by passing regenerative air through adsorbent previously saturated by pollutants in air passed through it. Thus in the fryer cover of Fig. 3b, malodorous gases are removed by stack 8 of catalyst sheets which are heated by electric resistance heater 7, and in the cooker hood of Fig. 6b, pollutants adsorbed in active carbon bed 22 are released by heating with electrical resistance heater 23 and converted by catalytic resistance heaters 25. In Ex. 1, the catalyst comprises successive layers of platinum, gamma-alumina, alpha-alumina, nickel aluminide, and expanded stainless steel mesh. In Ex. 4 the catalyst comprises successive layers of expanded stainless steel mesh, nickel, nickel aluminide, and platinum dispersed in alumina.
