Abstract

1530134 Tubular heat exchangers COVRAD Ltd 4 Feb 1976 [20 Feb 1975] 7112/75 Heading F4S A heat exchanger comprises a rigid tube 11 (e.g. of metal) wound in the general form of a helix or spiral but with the tube turns having a shape, when viewed in the direction along the axis of the winding, which is polygonal (as shown), oval or elliptical, said rigid tube being disposed within a pipe 13 of flexible (e.g. plastics) material the wall of which contacts the rigid tube at a plurality of locations spaced apart along its length. In the form shown, where the tube assembly is in the form of a helix, the turns of the rigid tube 11 are hexagonal in shape and contact is made between the two tubes at radially outer portions of the wall of the flexible tube by bend portions of the rigid tube, and at radially inner portions of said wall by straight portions of the rigid tube lying between the bends. The tubes may be in the form of a flat spiral, and the wall of the flexible tube may be corrugated. In use, a beverage such as beer flows through the tube 11 and a coolant such as water flows through the tube 13.
