Abstract

1530127 Carboxymethyloxysuccinic acid FMC CORP 10 Oct 1975 41594/75 Heading C2C Carboxymethyloxysuccinic acid is prepared by reacting maleic and glycolic acids in aqueous basic media in the presence of calcium ions, acidifying the calcium salt formed at 40-80‹ C. with sulphuric acid to produce the free acid and calcium sulphate dihydrate the latter being removed and the acid recovered from its aqueous solution. A temperature of 60‹ to 65‹ C. is preferred and calcium hydroxide may provide the basic media and source of calcium ions. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,327,115.
