Finely-divided zinc or zinc dust for use as a reducing agent is treated with a view to increasing its activity. The zinc is stirred with boiling water or with a solution of an alkali such as caustic soda.ALSO:Finely-divided zinc or zinc dust for use as a reducing agent in the preparation of organic compounds, is treated to increase its activity by stirring with boiling water or with a solution of an alkali such as caustic soda.ALSO:Finely-divided zinc or zinc dust for use in the purification of zinc solutions prior to electrolysis is treated with a view to increasing its activity. The zinc may be stirred with boiling water or with a solution of an alkali such as caustic soda.
