Abstract

1529707 Child-resistant closures ANCHOR HOCKING CORP 16 Oct 1975 [17 Oct 1974] 42478/75 Heading B8T An internally screw-threaded inner shell 7 is rotatably retained within an outer shell 6 and flexible pawl members 13 co-operating with ratchet teeth around the edge of a cavity 11 provide a ratchet arrangement for locking the shells together when screwing the plastics closure cap 3 on to a container, but radial pressure must be applied to the flexible shell skirt 9 to lock the shells together when unscrewing the closure cap. The coupling of the shells for unscrewing comprises spacedslots 22 and co-operating lugs 21, or a knurled or roughened region 33 and co-operating gripping projections 34 having friction surfaces. The coupling allowing relative rotation of the shells comprises a bead 8 projecting beneath the shell skirt 18 (Fig. 4) or a coupling pin 38 (Fig. 12). A sealing gasket 23 is provided.
