Abstract
1528988 Embossing JOHNS-MANVILLE CORP 6 Dec 1975 50135/75 Heading B6J A sheet 75 of material suitable for use in reflective thermal insulation (e.g. stainless steel or aluminium foil 1-5 mils. thick) is embossed in a first step with a pattern of hills not more than 1 cm. in height and intersecting valleys and is deep embossed in a further step with a pattern of protuberances 42 each of which is wider at its base than its apex and has a sufficiently large base to include at least portions of a plurality of the hills, the height of the protuberances being greater than that of the hills. The embossing steps may be carried out by nip roller pairs. The protuberances may be produced by raised portions 48 on rollers 24 and 27 co-operating with depressions 51 on each of the rollers. The hills and protuberances may be provided on one or both sides of the sheet. Fig. 8 shows a thermal insulation panel comprising a casing 78 containing a plurality of sheets 75 interleaved with embossed spacer sheets 77.
