Abstract
1528814 Frequency synthesizers RACAL INSTRUMENTS Ltd 28 Oct 1976 [9 Dec 1975] 50379/75 Heading H3A [Also in Division G4] A signal generator comprises an adjustable frequency generator e.g. a phase lock loop arrangement (Figs. la, 1b not shown), a control arrangement 160, 182 for adjustably pre-selecting the size of a desired step change in the generator output frequency without causing such change and an initiating device 162, 168 operative when activated to cause a step change in the output frequency. The generator arrangement includes a programmable divider 42 whose division ratio is define by the count of a counter 174. In response to the operation of a frequency change control 162, an up/down detector sets the counter 174 to count up or down and a device 178 is also enabled to open a gate 176 so that clock pulses are applied to the counter 174 and to a further counter 182 defining the step size and set by the control switches 82, 160. The gate 176 is closed when the counter 182 reaches zero count. A memory 190 and a single step unit 196 prevents the frequency generator going out of its control range. A range switch 82 enable selection of the desired output frequency range and interpolation between frequency steps in each range is also optionally obtainable. The generator output may also be amplitude or frequency modulated as in Figs. 1a, 1b (not shown).
