Abstract

The workpieces (S) to be packaged are supplied in succession on a supply-conveyor track (1), even at irregular time intervals, and are transferred, individually separated, onto a feed conveyor (3) having workpiece receptacles (2) succeeding one another at regular intervals. This transfer of the workpieces takes place as carefully as possible, that is to say without any scratching or indentation, in conjunction with a technical outlay which is as low as possible. There is therefore provided between the supply-conveyor track (1) and the feed conveyor (3) a retaining and releasing conveyor (4) which consists of two band conveyors (104, 204) arranged at a distance above or next to one another and running synchronously in the same direction (F). These band conveyors grasp the workpieces (S) with a slight clamping pressure and are switched on and off in the running cycle of the workpiece receptacles (2) of the feed conveyor (3), by a light barrier (46) provided in the region of their delivery end and responding to the workpieces (S), in such a way that each workpiece (S) pushed out by the band conveyors (104, 204) runs into a workpiece receptacle (2) of the feed conveyor (3). <IMAGE>
