Abstract

1526928 Automatic frequency control PLESSEY CO Ltd 31 Oct 1975 [2 Nov 1974] 47484/74 Heading H3A A frequency synthesizer comprises: a phase comparator 15 to one input of which is applied a reference signal 14 and to the other input of which a controlled oscillator 11 is coupled via a divider 12, 13, the output of the comparator being applied as a control signal to the oscillator 11; and a frequency discriminator 17 also fed with a signal derived from the output from oscillator 11 to provide a second, faster acting control signal from the oscillator. As shown in Fig. 2, both control signals are applied to the oscillator 11 via a common low pass filter so that both controls extend down to zero frequency. Alternatively, Fig. 1 (not shown), the frequency discriminator output may be applied through a separate bandpass filter (10). Frequency modulation may be applied at point X.
