Abstract

1525140 Antistatic coatings FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 28 Sept 1976 [8 Oct 1975] 40298/76 Heading B2E [Also in Division G2] A silver halide photographic material contains in an outermost layer (i) a non-ionic surface active polyoxyethylene compound which has a molecular weight of from 200 to 50000 and contains 8 to 50 polyoxyethylene units per molecule, (ii) colloidal silica wherein the weight range of silica to any sodium oxide is at least 500:1. and (iii) a sodium, potassium or lithium aluminate, in amounts sufficient to give an antistatic effect to the surface of the material, the polyoxyethylene compound having one of sixteen specified formula. The polyoxyethylene compounds represented contain variously polypropyleneoxy, ester, phenyl (optionally fluoroalkyl-substituted) phenoxy, alkoxy, amino, pyran, perfluoroalkyl, sulphonamido, alkenyl, amido, triazine, or imidazole groups. Alkali components in the silica colloids act as stabilizer. Ammonia, formamide, ethylamine or morpholine may also be present. Silicones and other surfactants may be present. The compounds can be used in a coating solution applied as a protective layer or backing layer. As the support there can be used films of cellulose nitrate, acetate, acetate butyrate or acetate propionate, polystyrene, polyethylene terephthalate, polycarbonate or leucovalent products thereof, a thin glass film or paper which may be coated with baryta or laminated with an α-olefin polymer.
