Abstract

1523719 Dolls &c J J NEUSCHATZ 26 Nov 1975 [27 Nov 1974 1 Feb 1975] 51334/74 and 4606/75 Heading A6S A doll comprises a slidable contact switch 11 which in the closed position causes the doll to exhibit a sympton of an illness by a detectable change in at least one surface quality of the doll, which symptom may be alleviated by applying treatment to the doll comprising opening of said switch. A high "temperature" may be produced by electrical heating element 9 in the forehead of the doll, or red spots may be generated by a lamp inside the doll and a partially opaque screen on the dolls interior surface. A child may check the "condition" of the doll by taking its "temperature" with a thermometer comprising an indicator 56, slidable in outer case 50, which is forced into said outer case to a greater extent past normal mask 53 when switch 11 is closed and the doll is "sick". The doll is "treated" by insertion of a spoon or pill into its mouth which causes opening of switch 11. Switch 11 may be connected via linkages to enable the "temperature" to be taken anally. In another embodiment the doll is provided with inflatable portions to simulate "mumps" and in this case movement of switch 11 allows egress of air from the inflated portions. In a further embodiment a rotating wheel having radial projections is employed to produce heart-beat like noises by the projections striking a surface wherein the speed of rotation of the wheel and thus the heart can be varied. The doll may also be provided with recording apparatus to indicate its 'condition, coughing apparatus, surgical incision closed with hook and eye inter-engaging strips, inflatable limbs of articulated or multipoint construction to simulate a beak the Setting of which is effected by inflation of said balloon. The doll may close its eyes in response to an injection and then reopen after a predetermined time The doll may have eyes which move in response to the presence of a magnet, e.g., the eyes may close when an anaesthetic mask is placed on its face: or correct alignment of the eyes achieved when glasses are fitted.
