Abstract

1522617 Magnetic stirrers ANALOX INSTRUMENTS Ltd 3 Sept 1975 [4 Sept 1974] 38716/74 Heading B1C Liquid stirring apparatus for use in analysis comprises a chamber having an axial sample inlet 21, an offset reagent inlet 15, an offset outlet 16, and a stirrer 10 of plastics material comprising a hemisphere surmounted by a vane and incorporating a ferromagnetic element 11. The stirrer is polished except for its base which is ground. An external magnet 12 is continuously rotated; when the chamber is empty the stirrer is stationary, but rotates when the liquid enters. The inlet 15 is offset so that liquid enters from it in a direction to rotate the stirrer in the same sense as it is rotated by the magnet.
