Abstract

1522552 Reciprocating pumps SHANDON SOUTHERN PRODUCTS Ltd 8 Feb 1977 [9 Feb 1976] 5032/76 Heading F1A [Also in Division G3] A double-acting reciprocating pump 26 for providing a controlled flow of pressurized liquid (to a chromatographic column) comprises a shaft 25 which carries a piston 32 sealed to the bore of casing 27 by a ring 30. The shaft has a threaded portion 24 so that it is reciprocated as a ball nut 22 is rotated by electric stepping motor 21 in alternate directions. Motor reversal is provided by micro-switches 40a, b operated by a shaft lug 39. The liquid input 37 and output 38 are connected to the casing on both sides of the piston via non- return valves 36a-d. As the piston moves to the right, for example, liquid enters via valve 36a and leaves via valve 36d.
