Abstract

1522341 Adhesive coated films TH GOLDSCHMIDT AG 17 June 1975 [19 June 1974] 25788/75 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B5 and C3] Substrates, which may be in the form of a thermoplastic film, are coated with a film of a copolymer consisting of a) 1-60% by weight of an acrylonitrile and/or methacrylonitrile, b) 30-95% by weight of an acrylic acid alkyl (C 1-12 ) ester, c) 1-15% by weight of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid and/or itaconic acid and d) 0.1-20% by weight of a N-alkoxyalkylamide of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid which may be in admixture with up to 25% by weight of an extraneous cross-linking substance, e.g. an epoxy resin or an aminoplast or phenoplast resin precondensate, or up to 25% by weight of a polyamide. Conversely a film of the above specified copolymer may be coated with a layer of a thermoplastic material. The specific Examples describe the coating of a copolymer of acrylonitrile ethyl acrylate, acrylic acid, N-methoxymethylmethacrylamide onto:- PTFE coated metal (1); a copolymer film of methyl methacrylate, nbutyl methacrylate, methyl acrylate, N-methoxymethylmethacrylamide, methacrylamide hydroxyethyl methacrylate and stearyl methacrylate which may be pigmented with TiO, (4) (5); pigmented with CdSe onto a film of a graft polymer, the substrate being formed from n-butyl acrylate, hydroxyethylmethacrylate, allyl methacrylate and ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate and the graft portion from methyl methacrylate, styrene, acrylonitrile, nbutyl methacrylate, methyl acrylate, N-methoxymethylmethacrylamide, methacrylamide, hydroxyethyl methacrylate and stearyl methacrylate (7); pigmented with green chromium oxide onto a film of a graft polymer, the substrate being formed from n-butyl acrylate, hydroxyethylmethacrylate and allyl methacrylate and the graft portion from n-butyl methacrylate, N-methoxymethylmethacrylamide, methacrylamide, hydroxyethylmethacrylamide and stearyl methacrylate (8); pigmented with green chromium oxide onto a copolymer film of methyl methacrylate, styrene, n-butyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, glycidyl methacrylate, and acrylic acid (9); and unpigmented onto a film of polyvinyl fluoride (10). In further Examples a copolymer of acrylonitrile, nbutyl acrylate, itaconic acid and N-methoxymethylmethacrylamide is coated onto PTFE coated rollers (3); and a copolymer of methyl methacrylate, n-butyl methacrylate, methyl acrylate, N-methoxymethylmethacrylamide, methacrylamide hydroxyethylmethacrylate and stearyl methacrylate onto a copolymer film of acrylonitrile, ethyl acrylate, acrylic acid and N-methoxymethylmethacrylamide pigmented with CdSe (6).
