Abstract

1520613 Dental implant M J FAGAN J R and M J FAGAN III 13 Jan 1977 01322/77 Heading A5R A dental implant 10 for anchoring an artificial crown 22 in alignment with a root axis 34 comprises a base 24 having spaced edge portions 36 and 42 for extending transversely of root axis 34. The lower edge portion 42 having a rounded surface to prevent loosening of the implant, a shank 28 extending from edge portion 36, and an abutment support 20 for mounting crown 22. Stabilizer elements 62, each attached to edge portion 36 by a connective portion 64, act to resist turning movements applied to the base when embedded in a jaw bone. Holes 50 are provided in base 24 adjacent stabilizer elements 62 for allowing the ingrowth of bone tissue. An alternative embodiment, Fig. 8 (not shown), has shank 28 located centrally of the base. Other embodiments, Figs. 7, 9 and 10 (not shown), have two shanks and abutment supports whereby the implant may mount two crowns, the edge 42 may also be arcuate, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown).
