1518505 Stationery envelopes D C TRETHEWY 15 Aug 1975 [16 Aug 1974] 36243/74 Heading B8K A stationery envelope of a plastics material has an envelope opening provided with associated closure means and a coating 9 over at least a part of one of its surfaces which is capable of receiving writing, printing, and postage stamps. The envelope may be of clear, white opaque, or tinted, polyethylene and the coating 9 may be an opaque, e.g. white flexographic ink. In one embodiment, Figs. 2 and 3, the envelope is formed by folding a sheet along a pair of parallel lines to form front and rear panels 4, 5 and a flap 6 between the panels, held in place by heat seals 7, 8. Alternatively the flap 6 may be heat-sealed outside the envelope over either the panel 4 or the panel 5 in which case the envelope is opened or closed by reversing the position of the flap. In Fig. 6, the envelope consists of a tube heat-sealed at one end 17 and having a loose flap 16 at the other. The flap has areas 18, or a strip, of pressure-sensitive adhesive covered by means of release paper which are removed prior to sealing the envelope by folding over the flap. The envelope may have both fixed and loose closure flaps and in this case it may comprise two rectangular sheets welded along the three edges. A plurality of the envelopes of Figs. 2 and 3 may be provided in tear-off roll form as in Fig. 4 with perforations 14 between adjacent heat-seals 7, 8.
