Abstract

1515869 Moulding bearings GEORGE KENT Ltd 31 Jan 1977 [31 Oct 1975] 45455/75 Heading B5A A bearing assembly 25 comprising a bearing member 17 and a spindle 29 rotatable therein is made by locating either the bearing member or (as shown) the spindle in a mould, injection moulding the other part, and then relatively displacing the parts to produce sufficient clearance for rotation. A metal spindle 29 having one part of smaller diameter and another part of larger diameter (not visible) is arranged in a mould so that a cage 11 of a dissolved oxygen probe is moulded to form a bearing about the larger diameter position. The spindle is then displaced so that the smaller diameter enters the bearing. This is accomplished by severing parts 22 which join the cage to a paddle 21 and a magnet support 23 which are moulded at the same time. Interlinked units 41 may be moulded one on to the next, the shrinkage on cooling causing relative movement inwardly of the tapered recesses 51 to produce clearance with the spindle 45.
