Abstract

1515858 Portable containers ZIRISTOR AB 13 Oct 1975 [18 Oct 1974] 41806/75 Heading B8D [Also in Division B5] A packaging container 1 is formed by lapseaming the ends of a heat shrinkable rectangular blank of foamed plastics covered on either side with homogeneous plastics material to form a tubular body, inserting an end number 10 into an end portion of the foamed body, and heat shrinking the end portion at least into underlying sealing engagement with the end number. As shown, the blank is wound, and the blank ends heat sealed together to form a longitudinal lap-seam 6, Fig. 1 (not shown), on a cylindrical portion 13 of a mandrel 12. The cylindrical body formed is then pushed downwardly so that it extends beyond the end of a lower frusto-conical mandrel portion 14. The end member is raised by a device 15 and held against the mandrel by vacuum. The body is then heated, e.g. by hot air, so that it shrinks into conformity with the mandrel and the lower edge folds under the edge of the end member. A device is then pressed against the container base to flatten the folded edge and to consolidate the body end member seal. The container is is then filled and closed by a butt-welded lid 2. Opening of the container is facilitated by provision of a thread 8 partially embedded in the inner layer of the tubular body laminate adjacent the lid and connected to a tab or lug (7) projecting from the body seam (6). Alternatively, a removable sealing strip may be provided of an aperture in the lid.
