Abstract
1515094 Burners; burning pulverulent fuel CONCRETE INDUSTRIES (MONIER) Ltd 27 Aug 1976 [17 Sept 1975] 35750/76 Headings F4T and F4B A method for the combustion of crushed solid fuel comprises the steps of crushing the fuel into a powder, fluidizing the powder in a bin, mixing the powder with compressed air in a chamber to form a vena contracta, and to cause the mixture to flow into a kiln or furnace. A burner comprises a fuel inlet 16, Fig. 4, a compressed air inlet 17 having a nozzle 18, a venturi 19 downstream of the nozzle, and a blow pipe 20 for supplying the fuel/air mixture to a furnace. Secondary air may be supplied at inlet 24. In use, solid fuel is crushed at 11 Fig. 1, passed to a storage bin 12 having an aerating pad 13 and the fluidized fuel is then supplied to burner 15. Pulsed compressed air is fed to the burner via a solenoid valve 22 controlled by an automatic electronic timer 21. In one embodiment, the raw fuel may be dried in a kiln and fed to a crusher 111, Fig. 2, and thence to a storage bin 112 having an aerating pad 113. The bin is linked to a pressure pot 115 by an air slide and pneumatic gate control 114. A level switch 116 located in a fluidized distributer trough 117 provides a signal at pot 115 and a predetermined charge of fuel is discharged along a line 18 to a hopper 119 and thence to trough 117 to be maintained in a fluid state, where it flows to burner 123.
