151,463. Marbais, D., and Deguide, C. Sept. 13, 1919. Washing processes; materials for purifying.- In a continuous process for removing naphthalene from coal gas by washing with anthracene oil at a temperature of 20‹ C., and circulating the oil through a distilling-apparatus, as described in Specification 118,730, both the gas and the oil are maintained constantly at temperatures of about 18‹ C. and 22‹ respectively. The gas passes through a cooler a to reduce its temperature to 18‹ C. and enters a packed tower c supplied with anthracene oil at a temperature of about 22‹ C. ; the oil is saturated with benzol to prevent absorption of benzol from the gas. The oil leaves the washer by a pipe g and passes to the distilling apparatus, and the purified hot oil is passed through a cooler e and returned to the washer. The water from the gas cooler is circulated through the oil cooler.
