Abstract

1514463 Valves CRANE Ltd 22 May 1975 [22 May 1974] 22858/74 Heading F2V A gate valve has, to at least one side of the gate 2, a loose ring 5 encircling the bore 4 and a resilient element 9 between one face of the ring and an annular face in a recess in the valve body, the other ring face being engaged by the gate when closed. The ring has an annular recess 8 to receive the resilient element and a circumferential recess to receive a V- section retaining ring 7 one leg of which lies axially in the recess, the other engaging a recess in the body. An alternative embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown) has a resilient liner (10) for the ring, from which a flange (10A) extends radially and protrudes beyond the ring face to engage the body. The liner has reinforcing (12) and its unflanged end lies initially retracted below the end of the ring but when the gate is closed the ring is extruded axially towards the gate thus bringing the end of the liner into sealing contact with the gate.
