Abstract

1514250 Feeding sheets; labelling L T DUNNING 27 Nov 1975 48849/75 Headings B8R and B8F Labels piled on edge in a magazine 14A are separated from the pile and carried past a glueing station 16 having a glue-applying roller 128 and past a label-applying station 18 where they are applied to bottles 134, by means of a suction head 56 which is carried in a circular path about an axis 20 by a main body member 26. The head is pivoted about an axis 94 to a shaft 38 which is radially slidably mounted on the body member 26. The oscillation of the head about the axis 94 and its radial movement are controlled by cams 96, 108. The head is provided with two vertical rows 84, 86 of suction holes connected independently of each other by hoses 88, 90 to a source of suction. In operation, the head approaches the magazine with its trailing edge radially outwards of its leading edge so that its trailing edge engages the label first. The head moves across the end label while swinging clockwise about the axis 94 so as to have a rolling action, and during this movement is also moved radially outwards towards the magazine to press on the pile. The outer surface 78 of the head is curved so as to conform to its path about the axis 20 to assist the glueing and label-applying steps. The bottles move linearly tangentially to the said path and also rotate counter-clockwise.
