Abstract
1512949 Automatic electric control MULLARD Ltd 28 April 1975 [10 May 1974] 20773/74 Heading G3N [Also in Divisions B7 and F2] A continuously variable gear unit, an energystoring flywheel, clutches and an electronic con- troller are inter-connected to effect vehicle propulsion in specified modes (eg flywheel only, engine only &c.). In the embodiment the vehicle is a motor car, the engine 1 is an I.C. sparkignition type, and optimum fuel economy is envisaged. The engine may be electronically controlled to idle or zero speed when not being used; and flywheel energy may be used for starting the engine. Hall-effect transducers are employed to sense shaft speeds. Water pump and fan are preferably electrically driven; and lamps may indicate to the driver which mode is in operation.
