Abstract

1512539 Measuring power S W ECKETT 1 Dec 1976 [5 Dec 1975] 49990/75 Heading G1U Power to a load 2, Fig. 1, is monitored by scaling 10 the voltage V by selectable 11 factors of sin# and cos#, by applying the scaled voltages Vsin# and Vcos# to a var meter 8 and a watt meter 6 respectively together with the load current I, and by arranging that the outputs of the var and watt meters are summed to provide a quantity proportional to VI(sin#sin# + cos#cos#) = VIcos(#-#), where # is the phase angle of the load current. Thus, by setting # equal to zero and ninety degrees in turn, the sum output will be proportional to watts and vars, and by setting # to maximize the output, the output will be proportional to apparent power VI.
