Abstract

1512037 Optical scanning and focusing system DECCA Ltd 22 June 1976 [30 May 1975] 23679/75 Heading G2J For scanning and focusing a coherent light beam in an optical detection system in which the beam is directed at a moving or vibrating object and light reflected back from the object is mixed with reference light in order to derive a Doppler signal which represents the movement of the object, there is provided an optical focusing system comprising three lenses which are spaced apart along the path of the light and have their axes aligned with that path, of which lenses a first is substantially stronger than the other two and is mounted for movement substantially in a plane normal to the path of light, a second is between the first and the third lens and is movable along the optical path to alter the focal length of the focusing system. The first lens is supported on the free end of a cantilever such as to permit movement in two orthogonal planes. A circular movement may be imposed on the scanning movement of the lens by the actuation of Piezoelectric bimorphs spaced around the lens.
