1511857 Paperinaking N A T I O N A L STARCH & CHEMICAL CORP 21 Oct 1975 [24 Oct 1974] 43214/75 Heading D2B [Also in Division C3] A paper containing alum and a dispersed starch derivative which provides improved pigment retention and strength is made by adding to the stock at any stage prior to forming the web a starch derivative of a starch base having a water fluidity of 4-40, the starch derivative containing chemically introduced sulpho-succinate groups to a DS of at least 0.008 and cationogenic or cationic nitrogen containing substituent groups selected from sulphonium, phosphonium, primary amine, secondary amine, tertiary amine or quaternary ammonium groups to a DS of 0.005-1.50.
