Abstract

1509600 Automatic cistern flushing devices YEE KYAR UN 23 Dec 1975 52690/75 Heading E1C [Also in Division G1] In an automatic flush control circuit for a toilet a capacitor 14 is caused to charge when a body is near to or on the toilet seat and discharge when the body leaves the seat to trigger an SCR 15 and energise an electromagnet 17 which causes the cistern to flush. A toilet seat is provided with a conductive loop 1, Fig. 3 (not shown) coupled by means of a screened cable 4 to the input of a low frequency amplifier 3. When a body sits on the seat a voltage is induced in the inductive loop 1 which voltage after amplification is coupled via transformer 8 and diode 10 to transistor 11 to turn the latter on. When transistor 11 conducts, a relay 12 is energised to cause the movable contact member M of a switch to move into contact with contact A so that capacitor 14 can charge from the V cc <SP>+</SP> supply via R1. When the body leaves the seat and the induced signal in loop 1 ceases, transistor 11 becomes non-conducting and relay 12 is de-energised so that the movable contact member M moves to contact contact B. Capacitor 14 now discharges through resistor R3 to the gate of SCR 15 to trigger the latter and so complete the energising circuit of electromagnet 17. Electromagnet 17 thus attracts its solenoid armature 18 attached by a string 21 to cistern flush lever 23 so that the latter causes the toilet to be flushed.
