Abstract

1509576 Removal of impurities from phosphoric acid FREEPORT MINERALS CO 5 June 1975 [18 July 1974] 24253/75 Heading C1A Carbonaceous materials (i.e. crud forming materials) are removed from impure phosphoric acid prior to conventional solvent extraction by contacting with sufficient liquid hydrocarbon to remove the crud forming materials from the acid, the hydrocarbon having a boiling point higher than the temperature used in the process and being essentially insoluble in and immiscible with the acid, the liquid hydrocarbon phase containing the crud forming materials is then separated off from the acid.
