Abstract

1508751 Needle SINGER CO 16 Feb 1976 [16 April 1975] 05997/76 Heading D1G A tufting needle comprises a shank 12 having a longitudinal axis 32, a blade 14 extending therefrom, an eye and point portion 16, and a thread receiving groove 20 on one side, the axis 34 of the eye and point portion being skewed, relatively to the axis 32, away from the grooved side of the needle. A shoulder 36 is thus provided, above which a lifting looper can pass. A bevel (26, Fig. 3 not shown) is also provided above the shoulder to provide additional looper clearance; the looper may contact the bevel during a tufting process. In another embodiment (Fig. 16, not shown) the needle blade is cranked towards the grooved side.
