Abstract

1507650 Nozzles B SEM 23 Dec 1976 53804/76 Heading B2F In a nozzle comprising an outer body including a cylindrical inlet portion 8, a frustoconical portion 1 which converges towards the downstream end of the nozzle, and a cylindrical outlet portion 3, an annular member 9 mounted within the outer body at the upstream end of the frusto-conical portion 1 and having a plurality of inclined bores 12, an inlet conduit 7 for spray material, said conduit being disposed within the annular member 9 and spaced therefrom by an annular passageway 13, and a conduit 11 for supplying compressed air to the annular chamber between the cylindrical inlet portion 8 and the inlet conduit 7 to create a flow of air through the bores 12 and the passageway 13, the whirling movement imparted to the air stream by the inclined bores is increased by providing helical ribs 5 on at least part of the inner surface of the outer body between the annular member 9 and the downstream end of the nozzle. The outlet portion 3 is provided with a tubular extension portion 4, the inner surface of which has helical ribs 5 at its downstream end. Figs. 2 to 4 (not shown) depict a removable outlet tube (3a) having a sleeve (20) which fits over a cylindrical portion (2a) at the downstream end of the frusto-conical portion 1, said outlet tube having helical ribs (5) on its inner surface.
