Abstract
150,747. Clarke, E. R. Aug. 16, 1916. Bearings and courses, indicating and determining.-Means for directing aircraft and determining drift by wireless telegraphy comprise a single receiving loop aerial of any suitable number of turns mounted on the aircraft so that its effective plane is normally perpendicular to the fore-and-aft line of the aircraft but can be rotated through a small angle on one side of this position so as to obtain zero effect from the waves sent by a, transmitting station. In a preferred construction shown in Fig. 3 the centre part of the coil is fixed and the outside portions n, o are constructed as frames -hinged about vertical struts l, m spacing the planes j, k. A movable mask connected with the controls for the parts n, o is provided on the steering compass to indicate the direction perpendicular to the aerial. The whole aerial may be made capable of rotation.
