Abstract

1506993 Adapting hubs to receive wheels for which they are not designed D L NOTT 22 May 1976 21271/76 Heading B7C An adapter, permitting wheels to be bolted to hubs for which they are not designed, comprises an annular metal member having a first set of radial slots 2 for receiving wheel fixing studs of a vehicle wheel hub and a second set of radial slots 5 for receiving fixing bolts for mounting a wheel against one face of the adapter, the slots each terminate axially of the adapter in a corresponding radial recess, the recesses 3 corresponding to the slots of the first set housing, in use, wheel nuts on the fixing studs and the recesses 6 corresponding to the slots of the second set housing, in use, the heads of the fixing bolts. The one face of the adapter has concentric lines 7 thereon and these assist in the correct radial positioning of the fixing bolts in slots 5 and in rendering the adapter coaxial with the hubs. In a modified adapter (Fig. 2, not shown), the member comprises two annular elements secured by bolts 12, one element having the slots 2 and the other element having the slots 5, and the recesses 3, 6 being provided in the abutting faces of the elements. The adapter is preferably made from aluminium or steel stock, with the slots and recesses being formed by milling. Alternatively, the member of Fig. 1 may be formed by pressing from sheet steel, the slots being formed before or after pressing. There may be three or four slots 2 and five slots 5.
