Abstract

1506052 Sweeteners TATE & LYLE Ltd 12 April 1976 [29 April 19751 17830/75 Heading A2B [Also in Division C3] A sweet substance is extracted from the fruit of Dioscoreophyllum crunminsi by treating the fruit or a mucilaginous portion thereof with an aqueous solution of an aluminium salt. Pectinase enzymes may be present or added to depolymerise gum in the fruit and to make the reaction mixture more mobile. Aluminium sulphate is the preferred extraction salt.
