Abstract

1505749 Electric incandescent lamp manufacture PATENT - TREUHAND - GES FUR ELEKTRISCHE GLUHLAMPEN mbH 24 April 1975 [26 April 1974] 17069/75 Heading H1F A halogen incandescent lamp, for example, having a tubular envelope 1 with a longitudinally extending coiled filament 4 supported by a number of tungsten filament supports 9 having an inner coiled section 10 of diameter larger than the filament and an outer coiled section 11 which resiliently engages the inner wall of the envelope, is manufactured by a method including the steps of reducing the diameter of the outer section 11, e.g. by threading it on to a plug of smaller diameter, inserting it into the envelope and releasing the tension to enable the outer section to expand into retentive engagement with the envelope. After withdrawing the plug the mount comprising the filament 4, sealing foils 5, 6 and lead-in wires 7, 8 is threaded through the supports mounted in the envelope. In order to more firmly locate the supports in the envelope, the region of the envelope adjacent the supports may be heated by an annular burner, the supports being impressed as at 23 due to their resilience in the softened envelope wall. The envelope may be straight or U-shaped, the latter being formed by heating and bending a straight tubular envelope.
