Abstract

1505711 Defrosting T C STUCKEY and B A SUSSEX 3 March 1976 [10 March 1975 28 Nov 1975] 9780/75 and 18097/77 Heading F4H An evaporator comprises a plurality of spaced apart plates 11 interconnected by at least one elongate hollow member 27 containing either water or a eutectic substance 28, a first conduit 13 extending through the member 27 for conveying refrigerant, and means in the form of a second conduit, extending through all said plates at a location spaced from the hollow member for heating said plates when they have to be defrosted. The first and second conduits may be part of a refrigeration system which also comprises a compressor 22, a valve 21, a condenser 19, an expansion device 17, a distributor 14, and header tanks 15 and 25. The second conduit may be replaced by an electrically heatable rod.
