Abstract
1505113 Shearing WYLE LABORATORIES 15 March 1975 10892/75 Heading B3W A rotary cutting knife A comprises a disc 10 with a scalloped edge 16 including portions 30 and 32, and disc faces 12, 14 conveying towards the cutting edge, the angle of conveyance (a) Fig. 3 (not shown), of portions (42), 44 differing from the angle b of portions 46, 48, Fig. 4. The scalloped areas 34, 36 thus formed have inner scalloped edges 38, 40 of smaller radius of curvature than edges 30, 32. For cutting steelreinforced rubber hose 36, the knife is mounted in a machine (C) (Fig. 1, not shown) which includes a clamp (78) for forming a bend in the hose at the knife A which is rotated at speeds of between 2000 and 4000 r.p.m. by a motor (82). The relieved portions 32 of the edge 16 and the adjacent portions 46, 48 do not contact the hose during cutting to allow for the dissipation of heat.
