Abstract

1504847 Anti-microbial topical compositions E B MICHAELS 31 March 1976 [2 April 1975 18 Dec 1975 (4)] 12937/76 Heading A5B [Also in Division C5] Topical pharmaceutical compositions having anti-microbial activity comprise 0.1-40 parts by weight of an alkyl-N-betaine, an acyl-N- betaine, an alkyl-N-sulfobetaine or an alkyl- N-substituted 2-aminopropionic acid, said compounds having the respective structures:- wherein R is C 10-18 alkyl; and 0.1-40 parts by weight of an alkyl-N, N-dimethylamine oxide, an alkyl-N, N-dihydroxyethylamine oxide or an acylamido t-amine oxide, said compounds having the respective structures:- wherein R is C 10 -C 18 alkyl; and sufficient acid to bring the pH, measured in 0.5% total concentration of the said compounds in water, to 4-5.5. The acid may be citric, acetic or hydrochloric acid. The compositions may be in solid form, or dissolved in water or in aerosol spray form with a propellant.
