Abstract

1504019 Pistons KARL SCHMIDT GmbH 19 Nov 1975 47683/75 Heading F2T A piston 2 for an I.C. engine has on its periphery grooves 3 with a sawtooth cross-section and is provided with an electrodeposited layer of hard iron with a thickness of 1 to 30 Ám., the hard iron being iron incorporating 0À5 to 6% by weight of a ternary compound of iron or aluminium with oxygen or with oxygen and chlorine, e.g. ferric hydroxide and oxychloride of iron and aluminium. Mention is made of running the piston of the invention in an aluminium cylinder, and suitable alloys for both are quoted. An example of the hardness of the iron layer is given, viz. 600 to 800 HV.
