Abstract

1503744 Porous blow moulding core NATIONAL CAN CORP 5 March 1975 [5 March 1974] 9192/75 Heading B5A A blow moulding parison 34 comprising two layers, e.g. a barrier layer and a dissimilar layer, is formed by injection moulding one layer about a pre-formed liner 26 retained on a porous core 18 by suction to prevent creasing of the liner. At station A the liners are fed on to a plurality of cores 18 attached to one face of a rotary turret 12. The cores are rotated in steps to injection moulding station B, blow moulding station C, and delivery station D where the blow moulded articles are mechanically ejected on to a conveyer 42. The blow cores 18 comprise a hollow body 54, Fig. 3, in which the blow head 52 is mounted and urged into contact with the rim 94 of the body by a spring 96. The blow pin comprises a tubular portion 72 having a porous end 74, and a support member 62 engaging the tubular portion by means of a thread 78. Suction to retain a liner or temperature conditioning fluid is applied through the hollow body 54, holes 68 in the base of the core pin 52, and via the helical grooves of the support member 62 to the porous end 74 of the pin. At the blow moulding station the core pin is mechanically displaced outwardly from the hollow body and compressed air is fed into the parison through the hollow body 54 and between it and the core pin 52 around the rim 94.
