Abstract

1502912 Polycyclic dyestuffs CIBA-GEIGY AG 9 May 1975 [10 May 1974] 19672/75 Heading C4P The invention comprises polycyclic dyestuffs of the general formula wherein ring A may be further substituted, Y is H or an optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical, and R 1 and R 2 are H, alkyl aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl radical and R 1 and R 2 may form a ring with the amino nitrogen atom, and mixtures thereof. Ring A may be substituted by nitro, cyano, halogen, C 1 -C 4 alkyl or, an alkoxy group, an optionally alkylated sulphonamide, optionally substituted alkylsulphonyl or a sulphonic acid group. Y is preferably an optionally substituted alkyl or aryl group. R 1 and R 2 may contain a quaternary nitrogen atom. They are prepared by diazotizing a 3-aminoindazole and coupling with a pyrimidine compound of general formula wherein Y, R 1 and R 2 are as above and R 3 and R 4 are H, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or conjointly may form a ring with the amino nitrogen atom to form an azo compound which is then cyclized with elimination of HNR 3 R 4 by heating the azo intermediate at 50-150‹ C. preferably in an organic solvent (b.p. above 100‹ C.) and in an acid medium. The quaternary nitrogen group may be formed by alkylation. The dyes dye and print leather, wool, silk, and synthetic fibres, e.g. acrylonitrile, polyacrylonitrile and copolymers thereof, polyurethanes, polyolefines, cellulose 2¢- and 3-acetates, polyamides and polyesters and for bulk dyeing or colouring lacquers, oils, waxes and cellulose acetate.
