Abstract

1501109 Texturising yarn COURTAULDS Ltd 17 June 1975 [18 June 1974] 26896/74 Headings DIF and D1W A continuous multi-filament yarn 1 is texturised by passing it through a fluid interlacing jet 7 to provide the yarn with interlaced portions, in the form of 'knots', at intervals along its length, and passing the interlaced yarn under tension, which tension is maintained by nip rolls 6 rotating at a certain speed, against an abrading member such as a carborundum wheel 9 having a grit surface to break one or more filaments in at least some of the portions of the yarn intermediate the interlaced portions thereby producing filament ends which protrude from the yarn to give it a fibrous appearance. The texturising treatment may be carried out on winding machines, draw twisting machines, texturising and draw texturising machines. In a preferred embodiment the yarn 1 is (a) unwound from its package 2 by rotating nip rolls 3; (b) fed through a first heater 4; (c) false-twist crimped by a false-twist spindle 5; (d) passed through the interlacing jet 7 having an air inlet 8; (e) passed over the circumference of a driven carborundum wheel 9 rotating at a surface speed which is faster than the yarn speed; (f) fed via a guide 10 to a second heater 11 for hot relaxation treatment; and (g) fed to a take-up package 12 by nip rolls 13. Polyester, polyamide, cellulose acetate, acrylic and modacrylic yarns may be used. After the filaments have been broken by the wheel 9, the yarn may be passed through a second interlacing jet which will reduce the extent to which the broken filaments project from the yarn.
