Abstract

150,037. Round, H. J. May 21, 1919. Frequency, changing; phase, changing. - In order to reduce energy losses due to internal heating, valve generators or amplifiers, commutators &c. are supplied with a square-form voltage, the energy of harmonics of the fundamental frequency being absorbed by tuned circuits. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, high-frequency current of sine form, Fig. 4, from a circuit G is supplied to the grid of an amplifier V, the grid and filament being shunted by a low resistance Fleming valve v, so that the voltage on the grid of valve V has the form shown in Fig. 5, the current in the plate circuit having the form shown in Fig. 6. A circuit F of fundamental frequency is connected to the aerial, while circuits F<3>, F<5>, tuned to harmonics, are arranged as shown. Instead of the independent generating circuit G, a reactive connexion between the circuit F and coil O may be provided as shown in dotted lines. Alternatively, the circuits F<3>, F<5> may be in parallel with circuit F, or they may be replaced by a resistance P, Fig. 7, and rejector circuit R tuned to the fundamental frequency, and arranged in parallel with the circuit F. A commutator may be used in place of a valve.
