Abstract

1499820 Jointing HITTO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 27 Dec 1974 [29 Dec 1973 27 June 1974 (2) 18 Sept 1974 (2)] 55904/74 Heading B3V [Also in Divisions B6 and C3] Depressions in surfaces are filled by prefabricating a substantially air bubble-free shaped B- staged thermosetting resin body which fits into the depression, preheating the surface of the depression to above the melting or softening temperature of the resin, placing the body into the depression and heating the resin body under pressure to ensure adhesion. The surface may be a car body and the depression may be a space occurring at a joint. The body may be prefabricated by shaping at 50-160‹ C. at up to 50 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> or by mixing the resin with additives under vacuum and injecting into a mould. The surface may be heated to 50- 250‹ C. The body may be heated in the depression by a fluorine resin-surfaced applicator, which may be patterned, at 200‹ C. and 10-20 kg. total pressure for up to 3 minutes. The resin may then be cured at 100-250‹ C. and 0À3-10 kg.Àcm.<SP>2</SP>, and the surface may be finished by sanding. The preferred resin is a dicyandiamide-cured epoxy resin including metal powder, and optionally metal fibres, as a filler (see Division C3).
