Abstract

1499804 Insulating composition A HARTFREE 17 Dec 1974 [17 Dec 1973 14 Nov 1974 20 Nov 1974] 58412/73 49380/74 and 50374/74 Heading C3N A thermally insulating and fire resistant composition comprises hollow spherical particles separated from pulverized fuel ash, a filler consisting of perlite or clay, and a silicate binder. The silicate binder is preferably sodium silicate which may have a specific gravity of 80-125‹ Tw. The clay may be kaolin. The perlite may be a mixture of two batches of perlite having different densities. The composition may also contain a wetting agent such as a disodium salt of half esters of sulphosuccinic acid, and inorganic fibres such as chopped glass fibres. An article formed from the composition may be hardened with carbon dioxide or ethylene glycol diacetate.
