(5n-1) interconnected by halfadders 61, ... (6n-2)(6n-1) and and-gates 41, 42 ... (4n-1), 4n each of which has one control input h1, h2 ... (hn-1), hn respectively, one input from the code-generator and one output to the input stage of the cascade (in the case of and-gate 41) and to respective half-adders (in the case of and-gates 42 ... 4n). The code-generator and each shift-register stage receives timing pulses on line 3 and the shift-register stages also receive resetting pulses on line 7. The control inputs h1, h2 ... hn provide a code address and control inputs Cl, C2 ... Cn to the code-generator represent a code key. The code-generator produces a linear code which is delayed by the sequential network. The generator itself may comprise a sequential network with internal feedback. The arrangement may be used in SSMA communications systems.
