1498850 Moulding pasties MATELINE AUTOMATION Ltd 15 Nov 1976 [15 Nov 1975] 47182/75 Heading B5A Pasties are made by feeding spaced masses of filling on to a dough strip supported by a conveyer, folding the sides of the strip upwardly as the strip advances, and forming discrete patties by laterally movable co-operable crimping dies. In the preferred embodiment, an extruded sheet, or a sheet from storage pins 18, is fed via a relaxing conveyer 4 on to an intermittently moving stainless steel main conveyer belt 6, the belt being supported along its upper run by runners of a reinforced phenolic material (TUFNOL MM). The belt passes under a flour shaker 5 before receiving the sheet and transports the sheet under a water spray 7, past knives 8 which cut it into two separate strips to a depositing station 9 at which spaced masses of filling are deposited on to each strip. The strips pass polypropylene or polypropylene covered forming ploughs 10 which fold up the edges of the strips and then pass between pairs of crimping dies 33, 34 and 35, 36 which move transversely across the main belt to form the pasties. The dies are received in recesses in mounting blocks 37, 38, 39 and 40 and are surrounded by cutting blades 47, 48, 49, 50. The mounting blocks slide over the belt on nylon rubbing pads 61, 62, 63, 64 and the dough strips are held steady during crimping by fixed polypropylene guides 65, 66, 67, 68 held by rods 69, 70 and 71 over which the mounting blocks move. Each mounting block is connected to a pair of further blocks 51, 52; 53, 54; 55, 56; 57, 58, blocks 51, 53, 55 and 57 being fixed to a first slide rod 31 or a second slide rod 32, whilst blocks 52, 54, 56 and 58 are slidable over the slide rods. When the slide rods are moved in opposite directions by, for example, air cylinders, the mounting blocks and thus the crimping dies are moved into and out of contact with the dough strips to effect the pasty forming operation.
