Abstract

1498792 Immersion heated vessels RUSSELL HOBBS Ltd 13 Dec 1974 [28 Sept 1973] 45573/73 Heading H5H A liquid heating plastics vessel includes a sealed immersed heating element comprising a filamentary, e.g. ribbon, conductor 11 wound on a resin impregnated former 12 and a pair of resin impregnated sheets 13, 14 sandwiching the former. Former 12 is made of resin impregnated glass fibre. Resin impregnants specified are polyimides, polyamides, silicones and a thermosetting polymer of phenol aryl ether. The assembly is laminated together by heat and pressure to provide a liquid tight element. The element 21 is clamped against a wall 24 of a plastics tea maker by a clamping plate secured to the vessel 22 by bolts 27. A silicone rubber seal 25 is interposed between the wall 24 and element 21. A float switch may be provided to prevent energization when no liquid is in the vessel. If the float switch fails to function the element rapidly burns out without damaging the vessel.
