Abstract

1498093 Lighting system EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 10 March 1975 [11 March 1974] 9784/75 Heading G1A A gas discharge flash-lamp is powered by a battery and by solar cell(s) so that the intensity of the lamp above the level due to the battery is maintained at a substantially constant contrast with respect to the ambient light level. Battery Vs which can be replenished during daytime by solar cell(s) 10, is coupled to voltage regulator 4 via a D.C. - D.C. converter comprising oscillator Os and transformer Tr. The output of the solar cell(s) 1 is applied to regulator 4 via current to voltage converter 2 and a circuit 3 which takes the square root of the voltage. The regulator 4 supplies the lamp 9, through low loss charging circuit comprising inductor 6L and capacitor 6C. Flashing of the lamp is controlled by pulse generator 7 via trigger transformer 8.
