Abstract

1498044 Ramp generators RCA CORPORATION 13 March 1975 [14 March 1974 (2)] 30188/76 and 30189/76 Divided out of 1498043 Headings H3T and H4L A sawtooth generator, for use in controlling a tape system driven from an A.C. source, generates sawtooth pulses having a dwell time between pulses that is varied according to the line voltage of the A.C. source. The sawtooth is generated across a capacitor 71, Fig. 5, charged via transistor 73, starting a predetermined dwell time after each voltage zero of the A.C. source 66, and discharged by transistors 92, 94 in synchronism with the voltage zeros. The predetermined dwell time is set by R.C. circuit 77, 81 and modified by circuit 75 according to the charging of capacitor 89 i.e. to the amplitude of the rectified A.C. voltage. The A.C. source and sawtooth generated are shown in Fig. 6. Details of the use of such a sawtooth generator in a tape tension control system are also given, see parent Specification, Division G3.
